Once Upon A Time (AUS/DE), Phil Shoenfelt + Rány Těla

Once Upon A Time (Aus/Berlin) were formed in in the wake of the original Melbourne post-punk scene of the early 1980s. Comprising Bruno Adams, Chris Hughes and Chris Russell, OUAT were a ground-breaking act whose psycho-industrial-blues rapidly made them favourites on the Melbourne club circuit. They were associated with luminaries such as Mick Harvey and Rowland S. Howard of The Birthday Party, as well as bands such The Laughing Clowns and Crime & The City Solution – all of them part of the same scene that produced Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. In 1990 OUAT moved to Berlin on a permanent basis, adding Ollie Peters on bass, and supported groups such as Swans and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds on European tours. The band released three CDs before splitting in 1996.

Bruno Adams and Chris Hughes, together with Phil Shoenfelt, were also members of Berlin-based band Fatal Shore. Phil will play acoustic versions of four of Bruno’s Fatal Shore songs as part of the tribute concert at Klub Famu. 

OUAT were the first Australian independent band to tour the Czech Republic in the early 1990s, and had a huge impact. They were supported on many occasions by influential Prague band Rany Tela, who will also be playing at Klub Famu.

Bruno sadly passed away in 2009. Now his son Conrad Adams has stepped into his shoes on lead vocals, and OUAT has reformed with the original line-up for a series of Bruno Adams tribute concerts. Joined by Berlin guitarist Ferdinand Richter on guitar, this re-born version channels the power and drama of the original OUAT with added style and edge.
